Chalabi Fall From Grace Should Surprise No One

I was pretty surprised when the US threw its weight behind Chalabi in Iraq. This is a man who seems to have fled from one scandal to another throughout the middle east. He could never go back to Jordan because he faced 22 years in jail there over a banking scandal. So now that it seems the US is cracking down on him and his corrupt cabal, I have to just ask what took the Pentagon so long to come to understand that this guy was a morally repugnant figure for us to hang any sort of mantle on?

No one should be surprised at the Chalabi raids given that he finally pissed off his one very powerful benefactor - Dick Cheney. You shouldn't be surprised that he got so much support from Dick - he's well-educated and slick and most importantly promised the Bush administration all the things they wanted to hear. But now, with the information about how much money the Pentagon is/was pumping into Chalabi's bank account and with him becoming more of a stumbling block to the all-important turn over of power for the US - he had to go.

It's actually kind of nice that someone finally realized this guy's a impediment.
